About East Tea Co
East Tea Co exists for one reason: most English-language writing about Chinese tea is either a museum plaque or a supplement ad. We write the version in between — how the tea is actually grown, made, priced and drunk, with numbers instead of incense.
Who writes here
Lin Zhou 林舟 — Buying & Brewing Desk
Writes the brewing guides and buying notes. Drinks everything at least once, twice if it deserves it.
Frances — Founder, Frances Tea
Runs the shop next door and asks the questions customers actually ask. Writes the comparisons and flavor maps.
East Tea Co Desk — Editorial
Field notes from China’s tea mountains, edited by the East Tea Co team.
A note on names: Lin Zhou is a pen name. The teas brewed, the numbers measured and the opinions stated are real; the byline is a desk, not a person we invent credentials for. When we don't know something, the article says so.
How this site makes money
The guides are free and always will be. When you like a tea you read about here, our sister shop Frances Tea sells it. That's the whole business model: if the writing stops being useful, you leave, and the model dies.
